Temperatures are set to feel more like July than April with highs of 20c predicted in Maldon on Friday.

Weather experts have forecast a summery end to the Easter holidays as high pressure over Europe sends our temperatures soaring by 5c.

The short heat-wave will only last until Saturday, when the average temperature will be back down to 15c - the average for April.

But Tom Defty, meteorologist at Essex Weather Centre, said we might avoid April showers with a dry outlook ahead.

He said: "On Friday we will get up to about 19c or 20c.

"It is not all that unusual to get a couple of hot days in early spring - it happens every ten years or so.

"When pressure is high over Europe, it keeps our weather fairly quiet, which it is at the moment.

"The pressure will stay until the middle of next week and we are not going to see any measurable rain for a couple of weeks.

"As it’s still the holidays for a lot of people, it might be the perfect day to head to the beach and have a taste of summer."
