An ambitious project to turn the Dengie into a tourist trap is set to be completed by December 2016.
Maldon District Council was successful in gaining £292,000 from the Coastal Community Fund.
The council and Magnox, which manages the Bradwell power station site, have contributed £17,500 and £20,000 to give a total of just under £330,000 to the Dengie Gateway project.
The aims are to extend Burnham’s pontoon, establish a 75-mile coastal trail, promote the Dengie and Maldon district as a visitor destination as well as promoting the Dengie as a gateway to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) Wallasea Island Wild Coast Project.
The council expects the project will generate an additional 50,000 visitors and an additional £1.8million tourism spend in the area.
