Maldon District Council has put the brakes on a new Monday market, expected to have taken place next week.

The council had initially hoped to bring the market to the High Street in the run up to Christmas, but then delayed it to the New Year.

It was then put back to the beginning of March and expected to take place on Monday next week.

The council is now aiming for March 9, with the market running from 8.30am to 2.30pm.

From 7am - 3pm, the top end of the High Street from the police station to Market Hill will be closed to most traffic.

There will be a contraflow system to allow buses, taxis, delivery vehicles, any funeral cortege and emergency vehicle access to the High Street and this will be managed by the market operator.

No bus stops will be closed as part of the plans.
