A houseowner feels her cottage is being “swallowed into the sewers” after continual flooding led to rats in her kitchen.
Carol Chalkley, 43, lives in a 300-year-old cottage in Althorne, at the lowest point of the village.
She has had flooding between October and April since she moved in six years ago and feels Maldon District Council and Anglian Water have not helped her.
She believes the flooding is caused because the sewage system and pump station at Mayland not having a large enough capacity.
The last straw came when Carol found rats in her kitchen area from overflowing waste water.
