A petition has been started in a bid to save a high street bank from closure.

Residents are rallying round to campaign against the closure of Burnham’s Natwest bank, which is just one of two banks in the town.

Natwest is looking to close the branch in three months’ time after the number of transactions dropped by 15 per cent over the last few years.

Councillor Helen Elliot has banked with Natwest ever since she came to Burnham 25 years ago.

She said: “It’s absolutely terrible.

“They have fairly short hours, but they’re always busy.

“We can try and campaign against it, I would certainly support that.”
