Whether it be a thriving independent business or a dedicated volunteer, we will be sharing the most inspirational stories as nominated by you as part of our Pride in Maldon campaign.

All of Maldon’s football teams provide a valuable opportunity for youngsters to get involved in the sport but without the adults who volunteer to manage the teams and run the clubs there would be no football.

The Standard spoke to just some of the people who have made it all possible.

Craig Riches, 43, of Goldhanger Road, Heybridge, stepped in to help at Heybridge Swifts when his then seven-year-old son, Luke, joined a team and is still helping out 14 years later.

He said: “This has grown beyond a hobby for me, it’s a passion on mine as I played football for a number of years so it’s nice to be able to put something back into the game."
