Half a million items missing from Essex libraries
Almost half a million items are missing from libraries in Essex.
At an average cost per book of £5.13, Essex County Council estimates the total value of overdue items is £2.5million.
In total, there are currently 489,366 overdue items awaiting return.
The maximum fine for late returns is £4.70, when an item is five weeks overdue.
