Essex Police has reached out to the local community via their new messaging system to warn Dengie residents about a spate of thefts from cars.
The statement said: “Police in the area are working hard to combat this crime; however there are simple things that can be done to make sure you’re less likely to become a victim.”
The police are asking car owners to make sure vehicles are locked with the windows shut and no valuable belongings are left in sight when the vehicle is unattended.
They also advise no tools being left in vans over night.
Essex police said: “The vast majority of theft from motor vehicle offences we suffer are because the victim did not lock their car.”
