Churchgoers and wellwishers are being asked to make donations to help maintain a Tiptree chapel garden and graveyard.

Tiptree United Reformed Church, in Chapel Road, has launched the Friends of the Chapel Garden scheme to help maintain the area.

The Rev Ken Thom, church minister, said donations would help the church, which has a limited budget.

He said: “Many visitors come to our graveyard and garden to respect the memory of loved ones who have passed away. From time to time people ask if they can help towards the costs involved in the garden maintenance. All donations towards our costs are most appreciated, and certainly help us do more than might otherwise be possible.

“Friends will have the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping us to continue to keep the Chapel Garden as neat and tidy as possible.”

The garden surrounds the church and includes a large graveyard behind it and a small Remembrance plot.

Most of the income for garden maintenance comes from renting out a plot of farmland donated to the church, while other funds come from occasional donations and burial fees.

All maintenance money is in a dedicated account.
