Nearly one hundred thousand pounds was paid in fines in the past 12 months, after thousands of residents faced parking penalties.

The South Essex Parking Partnership, which has two full time Civil Enforcement officers working in the Maldon district, issued 2,343 fines in the past 12 months.

This equates to £80,790 brought in through Penalty Charge Notices.

This is an increase of more than £20,000 on the year before and means the Partnership is now making a profit of £1,450.

In 2012-13, £60,640 in income was received from penalty notices.

Nearly a quarter of drivers issued with fines, 23%, appealed the penalty charge, but only 6% were successful.

The Hythe, Maldon, was the top spot for parking warden fines.
