Residents are concerned about plans to demolish ‘iconic’ buildings to build flats.
A planning application for19 flats, Station Road, Fullbridge, was submitted to Maldon District Council by Lidl.
Belinda Worsley, an illustrator, of Hall Road, Heybridge, said: “I’m very concerned at the planning application, the block of flats will dominate the riverside and the loss of the very special buildings will be huge.”
A tall 1938 mill and granary building border the site.
The Design and Access statement condemns these two buildings as creating a ‘negative effect on the setting of the listed buildings’ and seeks their demolition.
The granary is ‘much altered’ but considered a ‘historically significant structure’, but the mill is a landmark ‘only by virtue of its sheer size’ and ‘detracts from the setting’.
