Woman pedestrian suffers potentially life-threatening injuries in lorry crash

Police are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision which has left a woman fighting for her life. 

Police were called shortly before 1pm today following reports of a crash involving a lorry and a pedestrian in Sutton Road, Southend.

Officers attended along with fire and ambulance services and found a woman in her 70s with potentially life-threatening injuries.

She was taken to Royal London Hospital.

A 43 year-old man from Romania was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and taken into custody.

The road has been closed in both directions and is likely to remain closed for at least a further two hours.
