A new pub says it will asses the hours it will sell alcohol by taking into account local demand and the pub’s location.

J.D.Wetherspoon are soon to open on the former site of the Rose and Crown, on Maldon High Street and Butt Lane.

Residents of Butt Lane have already raised concerns the pub will encourage drinking among young people.

The premises already has a licence allowing sale of alcohol until 11pm from Monday to Wednesday, until midnight from Thursday to Saturday and until noon on Sunday.

Wetherspoon have applied for their standard hours for the sale of alcohol, from 9am to midnight Sunday to Wednesday and from 9am until 1am from Thursday to Saturday.

A Wetherspoon spokesman said: “Should we obtain the necessary planning and licencing consents to allow the development of the premises to proceed, we will assess what hours we will actually trade before opening, taking into account likely local demand and the location of the premises.”
