China’s nuclear power heavy weights are looking to build an atmomic reactor in Bradwell, according to national reports.

Bradwell’s party decomissioned Magnox power plant is said to be a new favourite for a Chinese-built and designed plant.

French utility company EDF and Beijing’s early talks identified the area as a likely site for a new station.

Elsewhere in the county, China General Nuclear Power Corporation and China Nuclear Corporation have agreed to help fund the UK’s first new £16bn atomic power plant in nearly two decades.

It will be built at Hinckley Point, Somerset, by EDF.

so our engineering is so far in decline we cannot even build our own nuclear reactors anymore and rely upon the Chinese…The country with great track record of precise engineering?????????

It could have been so different, however of the first things the coalition government didn't when they won the general election was to cancel a £80m loan pledged to Sheffield Forgemasters by the previous government that would have made Forgemasters one of two plants in the world able to make large forgings for the nuclear industry.

Unions stated at the time (2010) withdrawing the loan would cost jobs and jeopardise Britain's preparations to build a new generation of nuclear power stations.

We don't need new nuclear power stations. Doesn't matter who wants to build them, they are not needed, and they would expose us to massive radiation risk. Remember Fukushima, Chernobyl, Three Mile Island.....
.
Wind farms and solar farms are the way to go, supplemented by limited use of fossil fuels on the rare days when the wind or the sun let us down.

It's naive to think that the UK doesn't need nuclear power either fission or fusion because even with all our current capacity (nuclear/fossil/gree
n) we still have to import extra capacity from France/Netherlands & Ireland at peak times and that's after transfers from North to South to deal with demand.

I'd like to know where the "atmomic" "party" is...or has that be partly decommissioned already?
