A rise in missed rubbish collections has been put down to an increase in vehicle breakdowns and a change in management.

During the period from April to June there were 741 missed collections, a rise of 230 missed collections from the previous quarter.

Bob de Vries, 61, of St Giles Close, Maldon, said: “Generally they do the collection, but a couple of weeks ago they missed it completely.

“I know binmen are probably in a hurry, but they could take the time to do it a bit better.

“The phrase ‘more haste and less speed’ springs to mind.”
