MP Priti Patel says her constituents will still come first despite being promoted into a junior ministerial position in David Cameron’s reshuffle of his front bench.

She was appointed exchequer secretary as part of the Prime Minister’s shake-up of his cabinet ahead of the next general election.

Ms Patel, whose constituency includes Great Totham, Tiptree, Tollesbury, Tolleshunt D’Arcy, Wickham Bishops and Woodham, said: “My constituents come first and I was very vocal about that on the night I was elected.”

She was "thrilled" with the job, which will involve supporting Mr Osborne on economic reform, dealing with regional economic policy, taxation of transport and oil.
