Enjoy the sun while it lasts...severe rain warning for Essex this weekend

Maldon and Burnham Standard: Enjoy the sun while it lasts...severe rain warning for Essex this weekend Enjoy the sun while it lasts...severe rain warning for Essex this weekend

Essex could enjoy blazing temperatures in the next few days, but the summer sunshine is set to come to an abrupt halt this weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of rain across the region for Saturday.

A forecast is warning of heavy, thundery showers and the possibility of "significant flooding".

Before the rain arrives, temperatures are predicted to reach 28C on Friday.

I suppose if the media keep saying there's going to be extreme weather of biblical proportions by law of probablility it'll happen at some point?

Hate to break it to you but, Essex is a bit more than just SS3. If you look at a proper weather service, you can see that the official yellow rain warning includes Essex in the areas at risk of:

"Areas of heavy, thundery showers may develop over England and Wales from Friday night before moving northwards into Scotland later on Saturday. The development of these is uncertain but where they do form some torrential downpours are possible with frequent lightning, large hail and locally strong gusts. Significant flooding is possible where these do occur from surface water as well as small, fast responding watercourses. The frequent lightning, large hail and strong gusts could also be an additional hazard.

The public should be aware of the risk of disruption from any of these elements."

If the Met Office is stating that people should be aware, is it really that remiss of the local news publications to carry the story?

In fact, even the website you've linked to carries a similar warning for Essex as the one included the article above.

The Gazette is currently forecasting 7.6 mm of rain for Saturday, and 2.1 mm for Sunday. Hardly enough to float Noah's boat. And then it's back to summer again on Monday/Tuesday, with sun all day and temperatures of 26º.
Of course the Gazette just might have got it wrong. Surely not?

It usually rains at an angle not completely straight down. My mother has lived in the same house for 47 years and hailstones have never come down her chimney before. But this time they were coming straight down, which is unusual.

OH SHUT UP
