Two elderly women were targeted by thieves while doing their shopping in Morrison’s in Maldon.

A 78-year-old had her purse stolen from her bag on her trolley while shopping in the Wycke Hill store between 10.30am and 11.30am on July 7.

It contained cash and cards to the value of £26.

A handbag belonging to a woman, aged 80, was removed from her shopping trolley at 12noon on July 11.

The bag contained cash, cards and a mobile phone to the value of £100.

No suspects were seen.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “The public are reminded to keep their valuables safe and to remain vigilant.

“If anything suspicious is seen please report this to the police immediately using 101.”

They will say, with some justification, that as its private premises, they can't maintain a presence without invitation. I said it before...what on earth are Morrisons doing about it? This is like a mini-crime wave. Disgraceful.
