A man who was arrested in connection with an attempted robbery in Maldon has been released without charge.

The attack happened when a suspect wearing a Rod Stewart mask entered Costcutters in Dryden Close shortly after 9.30pm on Thursday, March 27 with a handgun.

He left empty-handed after staff pressed the panic alarm.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "A 51-year-old man from the town was arrested a few days later in Maldon and released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"These enquiries have now been completed and he has been released from his bail and without charge.

"The investigation to identify the man who entered the store with the intention of committing a crime continues."
