Families enjoyed a spectacle of Viking action combined with country pursuits in the sunshine.

The ninth Blackwater Country Show, held at Rook Hall in Chigborough Road, Heybridge, yesterday, featured Viking warriors in their living encampment and an under tens Kiddie-Vike, when the bravest warriors attempt to take control of the child horde.

Visitors could see a wealth of animals including birds of prey, Newfoundland dogs carrying out ‘mock’ rescues on the lake and heavy horses.

They could also enter their dogs for the fun dog show, have a go at clay pigeon shooting and children could try their hand at kayaking.

Skilled craftsmen, including members of The Guild of Essex Craftsmen, and local producers also held demonstrations and sold their wares.

The Blackwater Country Show raises money for Essex Air Ambulance and other local charities.
