A mum has won an award for her tireless safety campaign since her daughter died after becoming entangled in a blind cord.

Joy Edwards lost 17-month-old Leah in October 2010 and has campaigned with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) to raise awareness of the dangers of looped cords.

New European Union regulations were finally put in place this year to change the way all window furnishings across the EU are made and sold.

Mrs Edwards, of Ash Grove, Heybridge, won an Archangel Award - the highest accolade in ROSPA’S new Guardian Angel Awards - last week.
