School children applauded as they met the first responder who helped a member of staff from their school after a serious accident.

Ben Mumford, an East of England Ambulance Service community first responder, was first on the scene when Lisa Aydon, a mum-of-three, suffered life-threatening injuries after falling down the stairs at her home in Albert Road, Burnham on April 26.

Mrs Aydon was then airlifted by the East Anglian Air Ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge but is now believed to be in a stable condition.

Ben visited Burnham Primary School, in Dunkirk Road, where Mrs Aydon was a child and family support worker, with his colleagues Linda Sharpe, Marion Hiscock, Terry Frost and Wendy Risdale-Barrs to chat to the children in a whole school assembly about their role.

Ben, a 19-year-old student at Ormiston Rivers Academy, said: “The children had lots of questions for us and were very grateful that we had looked after Lisa - they gave us a huge round of applause."
