Tourists bring about £182million to the Maldon district.
The latest statistics, for 2012, were produced by Tourism South East, a not-for-profit organisation which supports tourism businesses.
A total of 3.1 million day visitors spend their leisure time in the district and 3,200 people are employed in the sector Maldon District Council is investing in developing tourism further.
Leader Bob Boyce said: “These latest statistics are truly impressive and we hope that with the continued support of the local tourism industry and our partnership work with Visit Essex, we can build on our vibrant tourism economy.”
