We’ve met possibly the youngest councillor in Essex, now here’s a contender for the most experienced.

Last week, the Standard reported how Will Radley, 18, had joined Althorne Parish Council.

Tilly Pink, who was 87 on Monday, could be the oldest.

Mrs Pink, whose real name is Rosina, has been on Wickham Bishops Parish Council since at least 1972, although she admits she cannot remember exactly when she was elected.

She came up with the idea for a new village hall, is president of Maldon Golf Club, and still attends the luncheon club she set up in the 1970s.

Mrs Pink was awarded a CBE in 1996 for her voluntary work, including her post as county organiser for the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service, and represents Maldon on the Essex Association of Local Councils.
