A primary school will hold a week of celebrations to mark its centenary.

Cold Norton Primary School, in St Stephens Road, opened in January 1914 and now teachers are taking their pupils back in time to celebrate the anniversary with a selection of themed activities starting on Monday.

Philippa Bourne, a Year Three and Four teacher at the school, said: “We are having a history and art week with some music and drama as well to mark the occasion.

“Obviously the context of the school’s early years was that the war was happening so we are trying to set the scene of 1914 for the children.

“The children will be dressing up and performing dances through the decades and we have felting work going on in the classrooms during the week.”

A community summer fair and barbecue will be held at the school on Thursday with a selection of stalls and activities, beginning at 3.30pm.
