The family of a 6ft 7ins teenager who needs a pair of made-to-measure crutches will hold a fundraising afternoon tea party for their “gentle giant.”

Joshua Welch, 16, has a genetic condition that impairs his mobility and now has to rely on crutches to help him walk.

But because of his height, he has to stoop to use standard crutches, which hurts his back and shoulders.

So his mum Sarah and her husband Chris Welch, of Teal Avenue, Mayland, are trying to raise £200 for a specialist made-to-measure pair of crutches from a company in Germany and hope to boost their funds with a war-time themed afternoon tea party.

The Keep Calm and Eat Cake Afternoon Tea will be held at the Scout Hut, in Millfields, Burnham, on Sunday.

Afternoon tea is £5 per person all money raised will go towards the crutches, with any extra funds going towards a mobility scooter the family plans to buy later this year.
