Historic honour to be reintroduced in Maldon
An historic honour will be reintroduced in Maldon for the first time in a century.
The freedom of the borough is a civic honour, which dates back to the Middle Ages in Maldon, but has not been awarded for 100 years.
Last year, Maldon Town Council approved its revival, as proposed by the council’s Sergeant-at-Mace, Richard Miller.
The honour will be awarded to those felt to have made an outstanding contribution to the town.
Nominations have been received and councillors are due to consider them in upcoming weeks.
Deputy mayor Stephen Nunn said: “This is an honorary title, which recognises good work and good actions by people connected with the town to say thank you for that."
