A new name could spell a new era for a riverside pub in Maldon.

Sue Wilsden, whose husband John runs the Blue Boar in Silver Street, bought the Welcome Sailor in Fullbridge on Wednesday in the hoping of breathing fresh life into the prime location pub.

The pub, which opened for the first time in two months on Friday, is destined to become a summer fish and steak house under the new ownership.

It was previously owned by Admiral Taverns but has been closed for two months, it is believed.

Hotel owner Mr Wilsden said the pub will become The Sunny Sailor and a “summer pavillion” to the Blue Boar.
