England cricket captain Alastair Cook has his own beer.

The former Maldon Cricket Club player gave the thumbs up to the Alastair Cook Benefit Beer, brewed by Brentwood Brewing Company to raise money for his benefit year charities.

Sales of the 3.8% beer - a golden ale with blackcurrant and spice flavours - will raise money for his four charities: Chance to Shine, The Professional Cricketers' Association Benevolent Fund, Mind, and The David Randall Foundation, set up in memory of a former Maldon Cricket Club player who died of cancer, aged just 27.

Cricketing stars David Masters, Monty Panesar, Graham Napier, James Foster and Mark Pettini will also be joining Cook at Maldon Cricket Club on May 11 for Cooky's Big Six.

Each will skipper an eight-a-side team in a cricket tournament to raise money for the charities.

It runs from 10am to late and includes a barbecue, charity auction, live music and bar.

Entry is £5 adults, free for under-16s.
