Armed police swooped on a Maldon street at night to arrest a wanted man.

Officers carried out a pre-planned arrest in the town shortly after 10pm last night.

A 51-year-old man, who lives in Maldon, was arrested at a house in Fambridge Road as he was wanted on recall to prison.

He is also on police bail in connection with other crimes in the district.

He is currently in police custody and will be transported to prison shortly.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing police cars blocking the street, forcing others to turn around.
