The doors will soon open for new drop-in sports clubs after a funding boost.

Two new Door Step Sports Clubs will open in Heybridge and Southminster after £6,800 was received from the the Essex Police and Crime Commissioners New Initiatives Fund.

The money, which adds to contributions from Moat, Essex Boys and Girls Clubs, Heybridge and Southminster parish councils, Maldon District Community Safety Partnership and Maldon District Council, will support the launch of the initiative.

Aimed at 13 to 19-year-olds, the clubs, run by the Essex Boys and Girls clubs and a team of volunteers, will allow young people to pick and choose when they come and what sports they want to participate in.

Venues and start dates have yet to be confirmed.
