Villagers are coming out in force to buy their village shop.

Bradwell residents are hoping to buy the premises of their community store in order to secure its future.

Shares are open to anyone living in and outside of the village.

Landlord Michael Baker came up with the idea for the not-for-private-profit venture and gave up part of his home to accommodate it in December 2009.

But he is now looking to move and has given the shop committee the option to buy the premises.

To raise the £160,000 asking price for the premises, they hope to raise £60,000 in shares and the rest from bank loans and grants.

In February, pledges amounted to £13,325 but in less than two months, they have topped £30,000.

Shop committee chairman Brian Main said: “We are getting there."
