A watchdog has taken enforcement action against a village care home.

Elmcroft Care Home, in Brickhouse Road, Tolleshunt Major, failed in two assessment areas in its latest Care Quality Commission inspection - the care and welfare of people who use the services and the assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision.

Only one category – the standard of staffing – met the standards set by the care watchdog.

The commission has since told the home, which provides accommodation and nursing care for up to 54 people who may have dementia-related or nursing needs, that it must produce a report on how it will turn its performance around.

Inspectors will then check to make sure the necessary action has been taken.

A report of the visit to Elmcroft in February said the unscheduled and unannounced inspection came after a previous inspection in November last year raised concerns.

At the time, the care home was told to send an action plan to the inspectors about how they would achieve the necessary standards, but no action plan was received.
