A village conservation group are celebrating after plans to demolish a former timber yard and build houses was rejected.

Members of the Heybridge Basin Conservation Society feared that the plans for 31 homes, which included houses with six bedrooms, would “spoil” the village.

One Property Group submitted plans to Maldon District Council for the demolition of the warehouse and saw mills in Basin Road and build 21 three and five-bedroom houses, as well as ten four and six-bedroom houses.

However councillors at a central area planning committee meeting on March 19 voted to reject the plans because it would create an “overbearing relationship” with houses that are already built nearby.
