A retired boatbuilder has been awarded for his contributions to Burnham carnival, after attending almost every event for 65 years.

Robin Harrington, known as Harry, of The Leas, Burnham, was presented the annual award for contribution to the community by town mayor Neil Pudney.

The 65-year-old has been to every carnival since he was born except for once when he had to attend his cousins wedding 10 years ago.

For the last five years, Mr Harrington, who was born and bred in Burnham, has stood as chairman of the Burnham carnival committee but has now had to step down due to health reasons.

He also took up a position in the committee when he was 18, but left when he was aged about 20.

He said: “I love the carnival and I didn’t want to give it up."
