Family and friends of a teenager who died after contracting influenza are holding a charity fundraiser in her memory.

Melissa Price, 19, died on January 13 after the virus led to multiple organ failure and respiratory distress syndrome.

The former William de Ferrers School pupil worked at The Town Crier in Chandlers Way, South Woodham Ferrers, and had hoped to train as a counsellor.

Mel’s May Day will raise money for the Papworth Hospital Charity and Haven Hospices.

It will be held at William de Ferrers School on May 17 from 11am- 4pm and feature music from local bands, children’s activities, sport tournaments, a guest appearance from Peppa Pig, stalls, a raffle and auctions of items including signed merchandise from West Ham and Tottenham Football Club.
