The painting by Miss Hayter of St Peter's Church
An oil painting hidden behind a cupboard until only a few years ago will be restored to its former glory.
The painting of St Peter’s Church in Great Totham is 183 years old and is believed to have been painted by Anne Hayter (1795-1854), daughter of miniature portraits artist Charles Hayter.
It was found hidden in the vestry when the room was cleared following repairs to the leaky church roof.
Unfortunately, damp had damaged the painting, which will be restored with the help of a £12,800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Another painting, The Adoration of the Magi, by an unknown artist, will also be restored using the lottery money and research carried out to find out its origins.
