The grandson of a First World War hero awarded the Victoria Cross believes his grandfather’s dead comrade should have been given the same honour.
Driver Job Draine, Driver Frederick Luke and Captain Douglas Reynolds were given the highest honour for valour after pulling the guns from the frontline in Le Cateau, France, following an order to retreat.
But Driver Ben Cobey, from Maldon, was shot dead as they charged away from the German infantry, who were less than a hundred yards away.
Driver Draine’s grandson Brian Moody said: “I have felt right the way through he should have won that, he should had that medal."
