Southminster food pantry under threat

Maldon and Burnham Standard: Volunteers from the Maldon Food Pantry, which inspired the establishment of the Dengie Food Pantry Volunteers from the Maldon Food Pantry, which inspired the establishment of the Dengie Food Pantry

Southminster's food bank is nearing crisis point as it begins to run out of stock and funds.

The vital service, run by volunteers at the United Reformed Church in North Street, was only set up in September last year and provides food parcels to 15 families a week.

However, supplies are running low and volunteers at the Southminster distribution centre of the Dengie Food Pantry are having to delve into their own pockets to buy food to supplement the parcels.

If the situation does not improve soon, the centre will have to close.

Volunteer Jean Fener, 79, of The Endway, Althorne, said: “We have a lot of customers that have food every week and we are feeling that it is very difficult to keep up with the supply."

Interesting fact for you.

This is called a Food Pantry because the "christian" Trussell Trust has copyrighted the term "Food Bank". To use the term "Food Bank" would cost @£1500.

If there is to be a "second coming" I fear Jesus would touch most christians with a S****y stick.

And a few of these so called families are just abusing the food pantry to get free food and save a bit of cash.

Casts a shadow of doubt over genuine cases.

You have to be referred to a food bank, you can't just turn up.

Stop reading the Daily Heil and you might develop some empathy.
