Firefighters are working to stabilise the front of a house after a car reversed into it.

The driver, a woman believed to be aged in her 70s, was driving the Skoda Fabia when it crashed into the end of terrace house in Long Common, Heybridge, at about 11.45am today.

Three fire engines and the urban search and rescue team were called to the scene.

Mark Turnbull, assistant divisional officer at Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, said: "The car appears to have reversed into the house causing a lot of damage.

"One woman, who was driving the car, has been injured in this incident.

"Crews freed her from the car and she is now in the care of the ambulance service.

"The urban search and rescue team are working with the county surveyor to assess what needs to be done to make the front of the house safe."

The ambulance service said a woman in her 70s suffered a minor shoulder injury and was taken to Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, for further treatment.
