A grandmother, who has never taken her wedding ring off in more than 40 years, is “over the moon” after her dog sniffed out her lost prized possession.

Retired Ann Tokeley, who has lived in Lawling Avenue, Heybridge for 35 years, appealed for help on Facebook after the ring slipped from her finger last Tuesday while she was walking her German Shepherd, Chewie, at about 4pm.

The 63-year-old, who married her husband Terry 41 years ago in London, said the 18-carat white gold ring never left her finger in all that time.

She wore it in the shower and even to bed.

She said: “When I went to wash up after dinner later on, I noticed my ring had gone.

“We literally turned the house upside down, we went through my knitting box, we retraced our steps and I even looked in the rubbish.

“But we couldn’t find it.”
