Identical twins Ted and Jim Durey are thought to be the only known pair of double amputee twins in the country.
The 70-year-olds lost their legs to infections related to diabetes.
Ted, of Orchard Road, Maldon, also faced 13 years of blindness, which was finally cured with a pioneering operation.
But the active pair have not let their health problems get in the way of their careers or social lives.
