Affordable housing for villagers has divided a community.
Landowner Alan Collier has applied for permission to build 27 homes on a field off Tiptree Road near Snow’s Corner, Wickham Bishops.
It follows an approach by the English Rural Housing Association, working with the parish council and Rural Community Council of Essex.
Twelve will be at an affordable rent for Wickham Bishops residents or discounted for those that want to downsize.
The parish council has supported the development, but have raised concerns about drainage, tree removal and access points.
However, a Facebook group called Save Wickham Bishops from Over-development, says the land is a unique wildflower meadow supporting a wide range of wildlife.
