A town has been left in shock after a respected primary school teacher and charity fundraiser has been exposed as an alleged paedophile after he died.

Former Burnham Primary School teacher Christopher Dobson, died in December 2012 but a horde of indecent images involving children were later found at his home in Chapel Road by prospective buyers.

The 70-year-old, who was unmarried and lived alone, was well known in Burnham as a fundraiser for the town’s RNLI branch, a secretary and youth coach for Burnham Ramblers football club and a teacher during the 80s and 90s.

He had no children of his own.

Richard Rycroft, operations manager at Burnham’s RNLI, confirmed that Mr Dobson had spent years raising money for the charity by selling souvenirs.

He said: “It has come as a complete shock to us all."

Accounts manager Mandi Deakin, 26, was taught by Mr Dobson in 1997 and 1998.

The mum-of-one said: “He was a brilliant teacher, one of the best I have ever had.

“I am really shocked, I think everyone will be really shocked.

“Probably the majority of people in Burnham would have been taught by him.”
