Fundraisers for a Queen’s jubilee bench are finally hoping to have it installed - almost two years since the money was raised.

Purleigh Playing Field Association held celebratory events in 2012 for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, which raised thousands of pounds.

The association wanted to use the £2,000 they had left over to buy the commemorative bench.

But in March last year, they were told they would face insurance costs of £5million or an annual cost of £200 after approaching Essex County Council about installing the seat.

County Hall said the £5million public liability insurance in case anyone hurt themselves on it.

To combat the extortionate costs, the association then decided to give the bench to Purleigh Parish Council, which can insure the bench under its £10million parish policy.

Since then the parish council have been waiting for Essex County Council to give permission for it to be installed around the village sign outside the post office in Church Hill.

Last week the association heard that the permission is going ahead, after parish councillor Michael Elliott filed a formal letter of complaint.
