POWERFUL winds hit Maldon and the surrounding areas on Saturday evening, leaving trees uprooted and powercuts.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service received dozens of calls to wind related incidents, and attended 12 spread over Essex.

Some houses had no power between 5pm on Saturday evening and 5am on Sunday morning.

Winds were recorded as being between 60 and 65 miles per hour.
