A woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following a two-car collision in Burnham.
The collision, which involved a green Toyota RAV4 and a red Mini Cooper, happened in High Street just after 8pm on Friday.
Fire crews from Burnham and South Woodham Ferrers freed two people who were trapped.
The first casualty was released by 8.42pm, while the second was freed by 9.15pm.
A 44-year-old, who is from the Burnham area, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of both drink-driving and driving without insurance.
She was taken into custody in Chelmsford and interviewed the following day.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police on patrol in Burnham came across a two vehicle road traffic collision in the high street shortly after 8.05pm.
"Ambulance paramedics and fire service were also called to the scene to assist with the collision.
"Two people were treated by ambulance paramedics.
"Following police enquiries, a 44-year-old woman from Burnham was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving without insurance."
The woman has been released on bail until February 11, pending further enquiries.
