Police want to speak to witnesses to an assault that left a man with a broken jaw.

The 27-year-old from Maldon was out with friends in the Ice Bar area of Evoke, in Market Road, Chelmsford, when he was approached from behind by a group of men.

He was punched to the face, causing injuries including a fractured jaw, which required surgery.

The group that approached the victim is believed to have consisted of eight black men.

The assault is said to have taken place between midnight and 2am on Friday, December 27 last year.
