A Burnham football club could move to a new 27-acre site with space for an academy training centre if a 300-home development goes ahead.

Developer Pigeon hopes to provide a club house, car park, enclosed football stadium, full-size pitch and mini football pitches in the west of Burnham, in order for Burnham Ramblers to relocate.

The club has been hoping to move into a new site with extra facilities since March 2012, but was thwarted when only 180 homes were allocated for the west of the town in the district’s draft Local Development Plan.

The developer, who had hoped to build 450 homes there, then had to go back to the drawing board.

As part of its new draft proposals for 300 homes, the developer also hopes to build a medical centre, shops, a nursery and a primary school, potentially creating a number of new jobs.

Shaun Pugh, secretary for Burnham Ramblers, said: “We were involved in the plans for 450 houses but that was always going to be a tough ask for it all in one site.

“Then when they split it into 180 sites, that meant that the Ramblers were left out in the cold.

“Having 300 houses in Burnham West is great news for us."
