Brazil, California....Maldon: Blackwater estuary named in top 40 holiday hotspots

Maldon and Burnham Standard: The Raft, a secluded holiday cabin in Heybridge, is one of the secrets of the Blackwater estuary The Raft, a secluded holiday cabin in Heybridge, is one of the secrets of the Blackwater estuary

The Blackwater estuary has beaten Moscow, Australia and Taiwan in the holiday destination stakes according to a national newspaper’s list of hotspots.

It came 24th in The Guardian’s top 40 list of places to go in 2014. Top of the list was Cape Town, South Africa.

It said: “The idea may never have crossed your mind but there are great little spots out in the Blackwater estuary.

“Osea, the private island a few miles from Maldon where the rich and famous party, is hosting several special events this year: kids' camps, boutique festivals, pop-up restaurants.”

It also mentioned The Raft, an eco-friendly, floating timber cabin, at Chigborough Farm in Heybridge.

It was opened last July by owners Sam and Paul Tallowin and is believed to be the first of its kind.

Well, now, I suppose a 'con' really. Otherwise ... what in tarnation am I supposed to make m' boots outta, y'all? And then, what am I s'pose t' eat for m' dinner with no cajon seasoned gator tail?

Would have to simply shoot a brace and settle for some pheasant with aspic, maybe some Jersey potatoes slathered in a nice morel white wine sauce -- with local oysters to start, of course. Now, that'd be a 'pro'. Stretching it a bit though since I don't even know what aspic is and morels? That's fungus innit? Being a barra boy from Stepney and all I don't know nuffink much, me ol' china. Know what I mean, mate?

Not too bad, me ol' china. Still, some of it's a little off.

Anyway, the thing is (if we're going to play charades), once you get a bit of of a gator's bottle in your norf and sarf it'll bring a tear to yer minces, I promise. (Funny though - everyone says it, like most anything else to the unsophisticated palette, tastes like chicken. Colonial phillistines.). Wash it dahn wiv a pig's or a gold watch and your done and dusted. And wivaht the farmer's givin' you any gip for the next coupla days, to boot.

Nice to see you're both at your best! Seriously, I had a weekend on Osea about 18 months ago and it was fab. It was just us and NDubz on the island!
